From Lisa Marcia Morris
Within this labyrinth of our lives, self-actualization, intrinsic awareness and higher consciousness is a journey to the One (God, Great Spirit, The Most High, Love). I believe this is why we are in this moment and every moment of our human form. I experience this enthusiasm of life, the continued discovery of the creative power - God Within, when I am writing, painting and performing.
Inspired by authors and great thinkers such as Don Miguel Ruiz, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Rhonda Byrne and Deepak Chopra, I am now inspiring the mature and succulent mind of readers in my own poetic way.
I am a poetic storyteller, author and artist. I was born in Long Island, NY. My mother, who often read to me at bedtime, introduced me to poetry, life and breath tucked inside the vivid descriptions from Grimm’s’ Fairy Tales and Aesop's Fables.
In High School, planted poetic seeds took root and I explored my craft in literary groups such as the Poetry Club. My first printed work, An Old City Block, which described the weathered and beloved character of an urban “stomping ground,” appeared in 1984 in the Eureka Poetry Magazine.
Creating visual art is also a favored pass time of mine. My early work was indicative of my fascination with myths, legends and the spiritual nature. As my poetry took on a more sensual nature, so did my sketches and paintings. The coupling of poem to painting, is my way of capturing the emotion, soul and passion of life. My favorite word is "Entheos" (Greek) – meaning enthusiasm, lust for life, the way the soul achieves a condtion of enthusiasm, as it gives birth to beauty. My hope is to bring this vision to life and feeling with my art.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in 1988. I have worked in executive recruiting, non-profit development, and most recently in public broadcast media. From my start, through college, and during my corporate career, I remained true to my organic passion for story, verse and art. In 2015 I began my literary journey, adding my art work to children’s books and a collection of poetry. The spiritual artist in me practices at Kashi Atlanta Urban Ashram where I also received my Classical Yoga Certification, 200 hour instructor certification.
